3 Makeup Techniques to Perfect Using Essence Makeup

No matter how good you are at makeup, there’s bound to be at least one area where you feel you can improve, whether it’s lips, eyeshadow, or eyebrows. While it’s not always easy to find the time to do it in, we’re happy to help you isolate the products that can help you out with your practice, so you’ll have them ready when you do find some spare time!

For this blog, we’re focusing on tips and tricks that can help you perfect some of the most common makeup techniques to really help frame your face and take your makeup up a notch.

Brows

Eyebrows might seem daunting for a lot of people, but there’s no need to worry about brows at all! They’re pretty easy once you figure out what kind of look you’re going for, and once you have the product you need, it’s all just practice, practice, practice! Right now, popular brow shapes tend to be bigger and thicker than the skinny 90s brows, which makes your life easier since you don’t need to tweeze or wax your brows down as much.

Here’s a rundown of brow products and what you can use them for:

Essence Eyebrow Designer: a creamy pencil great for natural brows, brow pencils can be used by anyone who wants to add definition to the eyebrow arch, or just fill in a few sparse gaps. You can also use it to correct asymmetry in your brows by adding natural, blendable colour where you need it - without drawing attention to the spot!

Essence Malta Eyebrow Designer

Essence Eyebrow Stylist Set: featuring a darker and lighter eyebrow powder, this choice is excellent for people who want to test out doing their brows but still want a natural look. Eyebrow powders tend to be softer and easier to blend than any other brow product, making them a natural choice for beginners to use if they’re worried about doing their brows for the first time. As above, they’re particularly good for people who have spare areas in their brows they want to fill in.

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel: the most fool-proof method for bolder brows without risk, brow gels are great for people with brows too bushy for pencils who still want to add subtle colour and fullness.

Essence Superlast 24H Eyebrow Pomade Pencil: finally, for those #instagrammable bold brows, you need pomade. This is best used by people with sparse brows who are looking to fill them in quickly, but people with thick brows can also use them to make a statement if they want to.

Face

Contouring is great for subtly changing the shape of your face. Initially used as a theatre technique, it’s recently become one of the most routine aspects of base makeup, and you can’t swing a makeup brush on Instagram without hitting a makeup tutorial on contouring.

Our recommendation is just the one: the Essence Contouring Duo Palette. This palette has a lighter and a darker shade that you can use individually or blend into each other for a custom palette, and the finely-milled, soft powder makes it perfect for beginners, as it’s always easier to darken your contour than to lighten it. As always, we operate on the rule that less is definitely more when it comes to contour makeup, and powder can be easier to diffuse than cream contour or lines of pencil.

Make sure that you place your contour where the shadows would naturally fall. Always add a little bit of powder first, and darken it gradually, and soon you’ll be able to place your contour without actually needing to reference the internet first.

Eyes

Eyeliner, eyeliner, eyeliner: no matter how makeup minimalist you are, people seem to love eyeliner, whether it’s graphic, colourful, simple, or just smoky. It’s a great way of accenting your eyes or drawing attention to your eyes without going #fullface, and it’s amazing to see what you can do with an eyeliner pen and a few minutes of inspiration.

However, not all eyeliner formulas are made equally, so we want to help you out.

Here are our favourite products, and what you can use them for.

Essence Eyeliner Pen Extra Longlasting: eyeliner newbies, don’t worry - pens might be a little less forgiving than pencils, but they’re actually a lot easier to use if you want a crisp, fade-proof black line. This pen lays down extra thin, extra dark lines, and you can definitely deepen or thicken if needed. People with oily lids might find that it’s far easier to try this, and have it last all day, than need to touch up their pencil frequently - and don’t be afraid to try shorter wings before going full #cateye. People with sensitive eyes: this might sting your waterline, so bear that in mind!

Essence Eyeliner Pen Extra Longlasting - €2.49

Essence Kajal Pencil: this soft, melting pencil is good for people who are new to the eyeliner game, and want to try perfecting their shape before they go for crisp lines. It’s easy to blend out into a smoky eye if you’ve made a mistake, and even easier to remove: some makeup remover on a cotton pad, and you’ve got a fresh, clean canvas to try again! Best of all, it’s good for sensitive eyes, though maybe people with oily lids might want to invest in a good primer if they want their eyeliner to last.
